The painting Gilgamesh, Neruda and the Winged Sun Disk is a creative illustration based on a relief depicting Gilgamesh between two bull-men supporting a winged sun disk. Pablo Neruda, the great Chilean poet is the one in the 20th century whose voice in his poems linked the readers not only to the land of his people but also to those dead voices and unknown writers of Gilgamesh 5,000 years ago. After accepting the Nobel prize, Pablo Neruda said:"I wish to say to all people of good will...: only with a burning patience can we conquer the splendid City which will give light, justice and dignity to all mankind."

It is this "burning patience" that connects Neruda with poets of forgotten times, with scriptural history and also with other artists who share the twin visions of time and space in their work.

The present work showcased here has red as the main colour signifier of the blood of Chile and also of the mythic times of Gilgamesh.
