Plains style, native influenced, earth-pigment painted, braintanned elk robe replica. Skin was processed primitively using ancient technologies. Striking imagery reminiscent of the early to mid 1800's.

This particular piece is entitled "Bear Medicine". North American native peoples had great respect for the strength and ferocity of the grizzly bear and oftentimes adorned their robes and shields with its image. Additionally, some natives felt that they had experienced visitations by animal spirit guides, the bear often among them. This piece is the artist's conception of a robe made to express that visitation.

As were the originals and due to primitive processing techniques, these skins are not flawless. They may have sewn bullet or arrow wounds or knife scoring on the backside. Paint has been distressed to create patina and earth pigment painting does not lend itself as readily to super fine lines as do modern paints.
This is a fine piece and would make an awesome addition to a boardroom wall, hotel lobbies, high-end log homes, personal collections, etc. It begs to be shown off. It looks bold and old!
