Michael Kenny has lived in Greenfield most of his life. He loves to photograph a variety of subjects during any season. Michael began shooting with his HP PhotoSmart E217 Camera with support from his coach, Nature Photographer Cynthia Brown Yackenchick. Mike had his first Photo Show in Wilson's Department Store for The Recorder Winter Photo Contest in January 2008. He also participated in the Artist Window Exhibition (AWE) a collaborative effort by the Greenfield Business Association and the Artists of Franklin County to promote downtown Greenfield by showing artists' work in windows. Photo #1. EUNICE WILLIAMS COVERED BRIDGE
The bridge that spans the Green River on Eunice Williams Drive was built in 1972 which replaced a 100 year old bridge which was destroyed by fire three years before. Unfortunately the bridge may be demolished this year due to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene.

Photo # 2. POET’S SEAT TOWER
The sandstone observation tower Located on Rocky Mountain, Greenfield, MA was built in 1912. This tower replaced a wooden tower which erected at the site on June 3, 1879.

Cynthia Brown Yackenchick, a native of Niantic, Connecticut moved to Greenfield, Massachusetts in 1991 where she raised her three children. The beauty in nature is all around us but not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to explore the wonders of our world on their own. In showing how she experiences her life and love of the outdoors, Cynthia’s wish is to inspire and encourage people through her images. People comment that many of her photos have a lasting effect on their mind, making one want to return for a second look. Cynthia photographs with an Olympus EVolt 510 camera.

Photo # 3. BRIDGE OF FLOWERS
The bridge was originally constructed in 1908 to carry trolley tracks 400 feet across the Deerfield River. The trolley service ended in 1928 and the bridge was neglected. In 1983 the bridge was renovated and in 1984 a beautiful garden pathway was reopened to the public.

Photo # 4. THE COVERED BRIDGE AFTER IRENE

Second Franklin State Representative Denise Andrews (D-Orange) will feature the photography
of two area residents in her State House office. Michael Kenny and Cynthia Brown Yackenchick
are both residents of Greenfield. Four of their original photographs, featuring local landmarks of
Franklin County will hang throughout the winter months and are part of an ongoing initiative to
highlight original works of visual artists, engineers, scientists and innovators from the region.
This is the second installation of visual art, replacing an exhibit by Orange resident Marla
Cromwell. "Our region is host to tremendous creative talent and ingenuity in the arts, trades and
sciences. Sharing this work with my colleagues and visitors to the State House is a simple but
important service my office can provide."
Two of the works feature the Eunice Williams Covered Bridge in Greenfield, which sustained
significant damage due to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene earlier this year. The
remaining two pieces are beautiful shots of Poet's Seat Tower and the Bridge of Flowers in full
bloom.

Inspiration for Cynthia Brown Yackenchick, began first as a child observing the natural light and beauty, with family at the Connecticut Shore. Her father’s deep respect for the environment coupled with her mom’s love of photography inspired her to study photographic art. Self taught, Cynthia enthusiastically pursued her training in camera technique while studying the images of many artists. Today she focuses on illuminating nature’s depth, beauty, and wonder. Cynthia most recently has added people and special events to her photographic pallet.
A 20 year Greenfield resident of the Pioneer Valley, Ms. Yackenchick has integrated her community support work for individuals of different abilities, with her art work. In addition to sharing her nature photos with the public, she has also made a special effort to bring a direct experience of live nature to those who aren’t able to venture into the outdoors. Photography has proven to be an excellent vehicle for Cynthia to share her love of nature with others. It has become her passion over a profession.
In addition to Cynthia’s collection of photos from numerous locations in New England, her travels to photograph have also included Mexico, Aruba, St. Lucia, and New Mexico. Five years ago Cynthia began to display her photographs in a variety of local venues also winning many awards for her exceptional work.
