"Metropolitan" is both a love letter and a quiet cry to the modern city. In this series, Assunta Cassa captures the intensity of urban life—lives crossing paths every day without ever truly touching, souls racing to keep up or simply trying not to fall behind.
Through her signature palette knife technique, Assunta fragments and reconstructs the visual chaos of the metropolis: train stations, crossroads, towering skylines—but also moments of solitude, silent escapes, and the quiet power of pause. Her female figures are never just bodies—they are symbols of freedom, vulnerability, and resilience.
The pixel-like visual language is more than style; it's a mirror of our age. We now experience cities through screens, scrolling rather than seeing, touching glass instead of hands. These paintings ask: where are we really, as life rushes past?

The "Freedom" series by Assunta Cassa is a visual journey through themes of emancipation, identity, and personal transformation. Each painting tells a story of inner liberation—sometimes painful, always sincere—where female figures in motion, in waiting, or in struggle become symbols of resilience and rebirth.
Using a fragmented figurative style and a vivid palette, Cassa explores moments of transition from visible or invisible constraints: bars, train stations, windows, and urban corridors act as metaphors for inner cages and turning points. Her signature palette knife technique both carves and rebuilds, making the painting process itself a declaration of strength and healing.

Occhi e frammenti di volti come specchi dell’anima.
La serie è composta da un gruppo di opere sugli occhi è intitolata “Io ti vedo” , che si ispira alle parole di saluto Na’vi del film “Avatar”.
In queste sole tre parole è sintetizzato un messaggio di rara bellezza: vedo che tu esisti e mi hai toccato nel profondo, vedo la tua essenza, la tua anima e vengo ad incontrarti nel tuo territorio, senza giudizio, senza voler trasformarti in qualcosa simile a me.
A queste opere sugli occhi si aggiungono altre opere su frammenti del volto.
L’insieme delle opere vuole spingere ad interrogarsi su ciò che rivelano i nostri volti, sulle maschere che portiamo, sulla bellezza e le diversità, sul naturale e l’artefatto.

I call them “moons”, but they’re actually faces.
Female faces, suspended in space, fragmented and silent.
It all began almost by chance: I found myself holding some wooden discs from the packaging of a vegan cheese. Thin, rough, imperfect. I liked their humble material, the fact that they weren’t meant to become art. I used them just as they were. And from that instinctive gesture, a small constellation was born.
The round shape immediately reminded me of the moon. And of women.
Because these “moons” are all female figures, even when they don’t fully reveal themselves. They speak of cycles, of waiting, of inner light. I’m not trying to paint a recognizable face. What matters to me is evoking a presence, an emotion—something that vibrates between what is seen and what remains hidden.
I use colors that speak to the skin and the heart:
blue that creates distance, red that pulses, orange that warms, violet that protects, yellow that awakens, and green that brings harmony and breath.
The empty spaces aren’t gaps. They are breaths, thresholds, invitations.
Each painting remains open: it’s completed by the viewer’s gaze.
These moons don’t reflect. They hold.
And maybe, in their own way, they transform.

Il tango è incrocio di anime che si esprimono attraverso due corpi che tentano ad ogni passo di diventare uno.
Il tempo di una tanda è una relazione in cui si investe tantissimo sapendo che tutto finirà lì. E' vivere l'eterno presente. Sapere che esiste solo l'attimo e coglierne la preziosità

Watercolor, for me, is a subtle dialogue between color and breath.
Compared to the palette knife and oil, here everything happens at the tip of the brush – yet that doesn’t make it gentler. On the contrary, I’ve discovered a hidden strength in these liquid pigments: their ability to suggest, to slip into emotional spaces without ever imposing themselves.
I use watercolor to capture faces, gazes, fragments of true stories. Sometimes these are preparatory sketches for larger works, but often they remain just as they are – suspended, essential, and vibrant.
Each image is a possibility, like a particle waiting to collapse into form.
Colors overlap, touch, and repel one another, creating a vibration that stays open to the viewer’s gaze. There is no single meaning – only states.

Ассунта Касса — современная итальянская художница. Ассунта Касса создала свой уникальный образный язык посредством обширного исследования цвета и сегментации визуального пространства, что является следствием пиксельной фрагментации, присутствующей в цифровых изображениях. Этот художественный подход в первую очередь опирается на хроматические контрасты, служащие проводником для передачи яркой энергии и эмоциональной глубины художника.
Фрагментированные и вновь собранные формы в ее работах подвергаются тщательной обработке с использованием особой техники шпателя. Благодаря этому методу Ассунта мастерски балансирует материальность и тонкие нюансы масла на холсте.
Ее творческий лексикон представляет собой гармоничное сочетание цифрового и классического искусства, наполняя пиксельное изображение человеческой теплотой, возникающей благодаря умелому вмешательству художницы. Cette oeuvre à la fois sombre et lumineuse a un côté mystérieux qui me plait beaucoup . Le traitement du personnage, différent de celui du fond, est magnifique. Bravo Assunta !
