L’œuvre d’Arnaud Bodaire est empreinte de son expérience de vie. Cueillir des objets est au cœur de sa démarche : il les transpose et les met en scène pour mieux les donner à voir. Le quotidien, d’ordinaire invisible, se transforme pour être de nouveau lisible à travers une nouvelle focale. Sa recherche plastique tente d’extraire du réel des objets délaissés, mis au rebut, banals ou sans valeur, afin de leur donner, à travers différents processus de création, de nouvelles possibilités d’existence tout en questionnant la relation que nous entretenons avec eux.
L’autre facette de sa recherche plastique est axée sur la mémoire. Elle questionne notamment les moyens mis en œuvre dans la transmission pour lutter contre l’oubli. Après avoir collectés différents objets dans son environnement proche, l’artiste décide d’en choisir certains pour leur potentiel mémoriel afin de les associer dans des compositions plastiques. A travers différentes mises en scène, il tente de redessiner les contours du passé tout en cherchant à questionner notre rapport aux choses et au passage du temps, pour donner à voir les traces de notre existence.
L'artiste a développé sa pratique autour de l’assemblage et elle s’articule à la fois autour des formes mais aussi autour des matériaux tout en laissant une place au hasard dans l’évolution de ses créations. Les «rencontres fortuites» ne sont jamais loin dans la construction de ses œuvres et pour parler de sa démarche et de son parcours il aime citer un poème d’Antonio Machado «le chemin ce sont les traces de tes pas […] il n’y a pas de chemin. Le chemin se fait en marchant.»
