LichtVizier is een licht gedicht die de sfeer en visie bepalen over zijn omgeving.

Gedicht:
Hoe jij mijn naam scandeert
en me binnen loenst
je verleden laat lezen
ruimtes en beelden met fantasie buigt tot zinnen waarmee je me wilt winnen
Hoe jij met gestreelde kwasten
je grijsheid probeert te verkasten
maar soms het grauwe toch nog overneemt
mij zo met blote oog van je vervreemdt
door nachtsporen die braken, avondvlinders die kraken bij vuurwerk van rood neonlicht
Hoe ik nu zomers gerokt met fel gelakte tenen door je blikkende straten dans
want er zit muziek in je benen
en jij me vraagt: ‘maak ik een kans?’

Boodschap en story achter het werk:
De Brabantdam, gelegen in het centrum van Gent, is een verloren buurt die meer belangstelling nodig heeft. Door de prostitutie in de zijstraten wordt de Brabantdam voornamelijk ’s avonds aangetrokken door een bepaald publiek en creëren ze overlast. De sfeer van de straat is een assemblage van nieuwe, hippe winkels en verwaarloosde, leegstaande panden, waardoor de straat een grimmige uitstraling heeft. De contrasterende sfeer wordt vaak als onveilig ervaren. Door gebouwen en bewoners met elkaar te verbinden, kan sociale cohesie worden bevorderd en sociale veiligheid versterkt.

De eerste indrukken van een buurt vervagen vaak voordat de stad de kans heeft gehad om haar ware karakter te tonen of haar sterke punten te benadrukken. Echter, wanneer je open staat en verbeelding laat spreken, vermengen deze ruimten en beelden zich in gedachten en creëer je een eigen perspectief.

Aanvankelijk begon mijn onderzoek vanuit een gevoel van sociale onveiligheid in de Brabantdam. Door de perspectieven van buurtbewoners, handelszaken, politie, gemeente en prostituées te verzamelen, en door zelf frequent aanwezig te zijn en te observeren, onderging ik een transformatie in mijn visie op de sociale onveiligheid in de buurt.

In plaats van alleen de negatieve aspecten te zien, begon ik ook de positieve kanten van de buurt te herkennen. Dit relativeringsproces leerde me dat eigen waarnemingen soms uitvergroot kunnen zijn. Iedereen kent wel een buurt in zijn stad die "vergeten" lijkt en waar vooroordelen over worden gecreëerd. Toch is het essentieel om je eigen perspectief en visie te vormen en een eigen oordeel te vellen.

Mijn boodschap dat achter het gedicht schuilt luidt ook: observeer meer, kijk om je heen, en creëer je eigen visie.
