Mon ami J.B. avait reçu en cadeau une vieille balalaïka, et me l`avait confié pour que je la remette en état... Ce fut le coup de foudre pour cet étrange instrument à trois cordes, dont 2 donnent la même note, Mi, la troisième étant un La. Les cordes d'acier sont très tendues, ce qui en fait un insrument puissant et cristallin, très rythmique et mélodique à la fois, mais assez rude à jouer.
L`idée d`en fabriquer une s`est imposée rapidement. J`en avait une originale sous la main, j`ai moulé la caisse de résonnance arrière et pris le mesures. J`ai sculpté le manche en une pièce, et laminé des bardeaux de cèdre pour la table d`harmonie. Tout a été bricolé avec des matériaux récupérés, sauf les trois clefs que j`ai acheté. Le résultat final est satisfaisant, sauf pour la puissance du son, de beaucoup inférieure à l`instrument original.
