Two faced World 2011
Painting, 69 x 183 cm by Gültekin Bilge©

About this artwork: This painting is one the carved wood series. It consists of one large piece of Cedar wood that has been sliced, dried and treated prior to being carved by the artist and then prepared for painting. Gültekin uses the whirling technique to express his thoughts about “two faced” people who say one thing and do another. It is a metaphor for the political double dealing that takes place in the world, regardless of the effects on the human beings involved. The artist developed the whirling technique as a new style of oil painting. He did this by adapting the forms of traditional Turkish marbling (a water based technique to imprint designs onto paper). The result generates a similar visual effect to marbling although with a very high gloss finish.
