Nobody Listens
2011
Painting, 176 x 162 cm
by Gültekin Bilge©
About this artwork: This painting consists of three pieces of Cedar wood that have been sliced, dried and treated prior to being carved by the artist and then prepared for painting. It expresses frustration about relationships where people shout their views but nobody listens or tries to understand one another. It is also a metaphor for governments that don’t listen to the views of their people and for powerful countries that don’t listen to poorer countries. But mostly the artist wants to highlight the lack of human rights in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is under embargoes. The people only want the chance to lead a normal life; they are screaming for help but nobody listens.
