Gültekin Bilge
Aspects of Woman
2011
Painting, 68 x 178 cm
by Gültekin Bilge©
About this artwork: This painting is one the carved wood series. It consists of one large piece of Cedar wood that has been sliced, dried and treated prior to being carved by the artist and then prepared for painting. Gültekin uses the whirling technique to express his feelings about the contrast between different aspects of womanhood ranging from happy, creative and nurturing to sad, manipulative and destructive. He developed the whirling technique as a new style of oil painting. This was achieved by adapting the forms of traditional Turkish marbling (a water based technique to imprint designs onto paper). The result generates a similar visual effect to marbling although with a very high gloss finish.
