The Life We Choose
Painting, 64 x 70 cm
by Gültekin Bilge©
About this artwork: This painting is one of the first wood series. These artworks are the result of the artist’s idea to break free from the convention of painting within a rectangular frame. The artist uses the whirling technique to express the idea that there are many different kinds of people in the world each choosing very different kinds of lives. Yet ultimately we all share the same human condition. He created this new style of oil painting by adapting the forms of traditional Turkish marbling, which is a water based technique to imprint designs onto paper. The result generates a similar visual effect to marbling although the technique is entirely different.
