Surviving a Dark Day
2010
Painting, 66 x 70 cm
by Gültekin Bilge©
About this artwork: This painting is one of the first wood series. These artworks are the result of the artist’s idea to break free from the convention of painting within a rectangular frame. The artist uses the whirling technique to represent a cataclysmic event with survivors emerging in the aftermath. He created this new style of oil painting by adapting the forms of traditional Turkish marbling, which is a water based technique to imprint designs onto paper. The result generates a similar visual effect to marbling although the technique is entirely different.
