Gültekin Bilge
Diseased Sea
2010
Painting, 43 x 180 cm
by Gültekin Bilge©
About this artwork: This painting is one of the first wood series. These artworks are the result of the artist’s idea to break free from the convention of painting within a rectangular frame. He uses the whirling technique to convey a seascape. The disease motif at the centre is a metaphor for how mankind abuse the natural environment. The artist created this new whirling style of oil painting by adapting the forms of traditional Turkish marbling, which is a water based technique to imprint designs onto paper. The result generates a similar visual effect to marbling although the technique is entirely different.
