Anxious Thoughts
2010
Painting, 69 x 70 cm
by Gültekin Bilge©
About this artwork: This painting is one of the first wood series. These artworks are the result of the artist’s idea to break free from the convention of painting within a rectangular frame. He uses the whirling technique to express a gnawing anxiety that many people experience because they are anxious about what will happen in the world, and because they have no control over events that will affect them. The artist created this new whirling style of oil painting by adapting the forms of traditional Turkish marbling, which is a water based technique to imprint designs onto paper. The result generates a similar visual effect to marbling although the technique is entirely different.
