Esattamente speculari. Il primo effetto speciale è curato da madre Natura. I gemelli Gabriele e Vittorio Magrì si scoprono diversi dagli altri perché uguali. E fin da bambini si appassionano alle mutazioni del reale. Dalla letteratura horror ai film che tolgono il sonno. Dopo un esordio da ottomila spettatori nel Brindisino, circola ora nelle scuole di Lecce e Taranto il loro primo lungometraggio: Stranieri, storia di extraterrestri ed extracomunitari fra i trulli di Alberobello. Un' autoproduzione non distribuita regolarmente, oggetto non identificato che punta, con successo, sul nuovo prolifico sistema del passaparola. All' uscita nel cinema Ariston di Mesagne, qualche mese fa, in due giorni lo hanno visto in 1.500. Il tour è cominciato silenzioso e lento. E continua a portare frutti, sostenuto dalla pervicacia propria dei venticinquenni gemelli che, nel frattempo, hanno continuato a fare il loro mestiere. «La definizione esatta è curatori di effetti speciali», spiega Gabriele. Quella di Gabriele e Vittorio Magrì è una passione iniziata tra i banchi di scuola. Sin da piccoli si divertivano a costruire mostri con il pongo o con altri materiali scovati in casa. Poi il gioco si trasformò in vera e propria scelta di vita, quando alla fine della terza media decisero di frequentare una scuola di effetti speciali. “Ma in Italia non esisteva nulla del genere – ricorda Gabriele – e così cercammo sull’elenco telefonico il numero di Sergio Stivaletti, che conoscevamo di fama attraverso le riviste”. Riusciti a contattarlo, gli chiesero di poter lavorare con lui, ma il primo suggerimento fu quello di frequentare almeno un liceo artistico o un istituto d’arte per ricevere un’infarinatura nel campo del disegno e della scultura. Seguirono il consiglio e, una volta conseguito il diploma, tornarono a interpellare Stivaletti, con cui nel frattempo avevano mantenuto un rapporto epistolare con le registrazioni video dei loro lavori. Dal 1998 al 2001 collaborano con lui per una lunga serie di film e di trasmissioni televisive: da “Il fantasma dell’Opera” di Dario Argento a “Il grande Bluff” condotto da Luca Barbareschi, da “Scarlet Diva” di Asia Argento a “Pinocchio” di Roberto Benigni, da “Non ho sonno” di Dario Argento all’edizione 2002 di “Scherzi a parte”. Per non parlare delle molteplici collaborazioni con gli spot pubblicitari di Wind, Telecom, Opel Astra, Pickwick, Conto Arancio e Bulgari.

Poi che cosa è successo?
Abbiamo sentito il desiderio, oltre alla necessità, di metterci in proprio. In Italia si investe pochissimo in effetti speciali, malgrado il pubblico dimostri un forte interesse per i film che ne sono conditi. Su queste basi sono nati “Stranieri” e “Bianco Scarlatto”, il primo una storia di fanta-attualità che unisce argomenti fantascientifici a temi sociali, il secondo – con Franco Nero – la leggenda di un fantasma che si intreccia con l’esistenza di due ragazzi.

Come riuscite a esprimere gli stati d’animo e le emozioni di un personaggio di fantasia?
Studiamo la sceneggiatura, per comprendere il carattere che dovrà assumere nelle varie fasi della storia. In questo modo prevediamo i movimenti delle sopracciglia e della bocca, essenziali per conferire un’espressione, sin dal momento in cui modelliamo la creta e successivamente quando posizioniamo gli ingranaggi. La bravura sta poi nelle persone che animano i personaggi: a volte per uno solo sono necessari più marionettisti, uno che si occupa solo degli occhi, uno della bocca, uno del naso. E’ la loro capacità di coordinarsi che permette di ottenere un movimento quanto più naturale possibile.

E nel caso del make up?
Si parte dal volto e dalla testa dell’attore, di cui si prende un calco con l’alginato dentale. Si crea poi un modello in gesso e su questo si vanno a plasmare i vari lineamenti da deformare (naso più lungo, orecchie più grosse). Le modifiche vengono trasformate in protesi di gomma, che successivamente vengono applicate direttamente sul volto dell’attore, mimetizzandole con il trucco.

Il lavoro che avete amato di più?
Diciamo che truccare Robert Englund per “Il ritorno di Cagliostro” (2003) di Ciprì e Maresco è stata una grandissima emozione per noi, che lo ammiravano sin dai tempi della sua interpretazione di Freddy Krueger in “Nightmare”. In generale, il nostro sogno si realizza ogni volta che vediamo le persone in sala applaudire o spaventarsi tutte insieme.

Nel vostro futuro?
C’è tranquillamente un film fantasy per il quale stiamo cercando una produzione cinematografica. Parla della ricerca della felicità, della legge di attrazione fra i pensieri e la materia e della differenza tra vivere e sopravvivere. Più che gli effetti speciali, attualmente, stiamo portando avanti la nostra passione per la regia e speriamo di realizzare presto il nostro sogno.

In your future?
There is easily a fantasy film for which we are looking for a film production. Scegliere cosa come e quando girare. L' indipendenza nel cinema ha almeno due sinonimi: libertà e necessità (opposti, in verità). Il risultato è comunque il più vicino possibile a quanto, nella solitudine creativa, si era pensato di realizzare. Se indipendente è tutto l' esercito dei cortometraggi che animano - con alterne fortune - le belle speranze dei giovani filmaker pugliesi, da qualche mese alcuni di loro hanno deciso di non accontentarsi. In luogo di un film breve, un lungometraggio. Incoraggiati dal digitale e per nulla intenzionati ad aspettare la sentenza di una lontana casa di produzione. «Non è facile avere un produttore alle spalle e l' attesa può durare anche anni. Noi volevamo tutto e subito» confessa il regista Vito Palumbo, 29 anni. Così, con i compagni di strada Roberto De Feo e Marta Marrone dell' associazione culturale Duende, hanno optato per l' autotassazione fino a mettere insieme, anche grazie a una piccola sovvenzione della Provincia di Bari, 25mila euro. In questo modo sono cominciate le quaranta giornate di riprese, in pieno svolgimento, di "35 mm". A girarlo c' è una troupe di venti giovani tecnici provenienti da varie regioni e gli attori fanno parte dello stesso giro delle accademie cinematografiche romane. Tutti professionisti in divenire collegati dall' urgenza dell' espressione. Il film, secondo un autobiografica vena speculare, racconta di un ragazzo del Sud che amerebbe fare il regista e si consola passando le sue giornate nel cineforum del suo paese, decidendo poi di cercare a Roma una possibile strada. Le riprese ambientate nella sala cinematografica sono state realizzate al Nuovo Splendor, messo a disposizione dal gestore Giuseppe Fraccalvieri anche presidente del circolo Arci Pierrot le fou che ha risposto alla richiesta di sostegno, fondamentale per chi fa l' indipendente. I budget sono risicatissimi e, spesso, si riesce a pagare solo un tecnico di ripresa come è accaduto ai fratelli brindisini Gabriele e Vittorio Magrì. Gli altri devono aderire al sogno totalmente, pena il fallimento del medesimo. «Non si può fare diversamente» riconoscono i gemelli registi anche creatori di effetti speciali al fianco di Argento, Benigni e Ciprì e Maresco e, tra gli altri, delle celebri zucche giganti dello spot Conto Arancio e dei gioielli di ghiaccio Bulgari. Stasera alle 18, 21 e alle 22,30, presentano nel cinema Ariston di Mesagne la loro opera seconda, "Bianco scarlatto", ricostruzione della leggenda popolare della "signura Leta" che in abito da sposa si aggirerebbe alla periferia del paese. Il primo film di fantattualità s' intitolava "Stranieri" ed è stato visto nelle province di Brindisi e Lecce raccogliendo più di diecimila spettatori. Oltre alla distribuzione casalinga, la speranza è quella di raggiungerne una ufficiale. Lo sperano i gemelli Magrì che considerano questo film «un biglietto da visita per un futuro produttore». Contano di convincerlo con idee e sceneggiatura così come hanno fatto con Franco Nero che in "Bianco Scarlatto" interpreta lo sceneggiatore. «Lo abbiamo conosciuto sul set del film "Angelo e il cacciatore", praticandogli dei finti fori di proiettili sulla sua schiena e si è lasciato coinvolgere dal nostro entusiasmo». «Non mi costa niente e mi diverto» ha risposto, ospitando per un paio di giorni la mini-troupe nella sua casa e a sue spese. Il budget per il film in questione, infatti, non arrivava neanche a 4mila euro. Più o meno con la stessa cifra gira un film sulla traslazione delle ossa di san Nicola anche il barese Vito Giuss Potenza che è riuscito a coinvolgere nel ruolo del santo di Myra ancora Andrea Giordana (interprete di un suo corto) e Massimo Dapporto in alcune pose. Anche per lui, dopo "All' alba saliremo il monte", è il secondo lungometraggio «girato approfittando di ritagli di tempo, consapevoli di confezionare un lavoro artigianale». E che il lungometraggio vada lentamente preferito al corto lo segnala anche la scuola. Il liceo scientifico Scacchi di Bari, per esempio, che ha in proiezione nell' aula magna fino a domani il film "Fuori tempo", girato nelle aule dall' alunno Martino Lacirignola con budget scolastico.
