Christophe FOURNIER was born in Tours in September 1967.
It to study at the School of Applied arts of Poitiers “Bugeant-Bégault”.
At its exit of study, he worked during 16 years, with creation and the execution in agency of pub, made trade of rigour and total controls. It could have been based completely on these strong foundations. Not, it at the same time bases its work on a simple and difficult principle.
TOOF, is in the search of perfect balance between the frank, innocent thought of childhood and that retained and analyzed of an adult (thing completely opposite). This balance is difficult to obtain, it is necessary to be attentive has not to rock on a side or another. In this balance which is it his, TOOF invites to more or less optimistic voyages, showing a tinted world of irony and bitterness, where mixes wild humour and cynical poetry.
All is inspiration: each moment, object, word, scene of the life often place with a certain gravity leaves; but the cheerfulness of the colors used with the liking of the fabrics rebalances the whole “in the world all is a question of balance”.
Tended and energetic, alive and instinctive painting, the work of TOOF coldly consolidates us in the contemporary world: The spectator will find there a criticism sharp-edged of the company which surrounds us, or an appeasing to see it thus represented. Beyond the point of view of the observer, it is a will to describe the daily newspaper which animates the painter.
That one qualifies his work of free figuration or abstracted expressionnism, TOOF seeks before all the exploration of techniques different, a principle of happy medium between a considered technique and the instinctive one. No taboo and external pressure, just the research of esthetics that it is conventional (beautiful, academic) or not conventional (hazardous, not controlled), thus declining in often let us tons violent one of the complex compositions: successive thicknesses, layers, covering, duplication.
Armed with a pastel or a soft lead pencil he does not hesitate to cover or insist on a detail.
“any balance is built on oppositions”.
As if TOOF proposed to revolt discreetly
against this world created by ourself.
