Este bocado de ‘paraíso na terra’ faz parte da verdejante e inspiradora paisagem que caracteriza a pequena aldeia de Mina de São Domingos. Localizada no Alentejo (no conselho de Mértola, distrito de Beja) a sul de Portugal, esta pequena povoação está fortemente vinculada a um passado áureo na exploração mineira: tanto a aldeia, quanto a mina faziam parte dum couto mineiro, fundado cerca de 1857 e desactivado em 1965. Mas da outrora activa mina, para além do nome de Mina de S. Domingo, resta: a história, e as ‘estórias’, que as ruinas do dito complexo mineiro reacendem na memória dos mais velhos para delícia dos mais novos; uma alva e linda aldeia caracteristicamente alentejana; gente simpática e hospitaleira e uma paisagem muito próxima daquilo que supomos ser ‘um pequeno paraíso’. É por tudo isto que eu gosto de pintar o meu Alentejo e o meu País ---->
IN ENGLISH: This bit of 'heaven on earth' is part of the green and inspiring landscape that characterizes a small village name’s São Domingos’ Mine. Located in Alentejo, south of Portugal, this small village is closely linked to a past golden in mining: both the village, as the mine were part of a mining exploration, founded about 1857 and off in 1965. But the old mine once very active, apart from S. Domingo Mine name, remains: the history, and the 'stories', that the ruins of the mining complex rekindle in the memory of the older to the delight of the younger people; one characteristic Alentejo's village, beautiful and very white and clean; friendly and hospitable people and a landscape very close of what we assume to be 'a paradise'. That's why I like to paint my Alentejo and my country
