Yvon Bescond s’embarque à 19 ans sur un bateau de commerce pour faire le tour du monde. Il termine son périple en 1983 dans les Pyrénées et s’installe en bord de Garonne à Saint-Béat. Il y découvre les carrières de marbre, commence à s’intéresser à cette matière noble pour le concasser d’abord puis le broyer. Grâce au Festival de la Sculpture et du marbre de Saint-Béat, Yvon Bescond rencontre de nombreux sculpteurs. En 2003, il se lance lui-même dans la taille de la pierre, c’est alors pour lui une révélation. «Je ne cherche pas un style, tout m’inspire, dit-il. D’un bloc brut, j’aime jouer avec ses formes, ses couleurs, ses transparences, me défaire du surplus jusqu’à lui trouver une légèreté et une sonorité presque cristalline. C’est une recherche permanente de mobilité, de mouvement, que la sculpture paradoxalement ne soit pas de marbre».
Il est très inspiré par le nu féminin dont il sait extraire toute la grâce et l’élégance. Outre le Festival de Saint-Béat, il a participé à plusieurs salons.
