The concept that inform Edwin Jumalon’s art practice is not the depiction of nature or the linear recording of life experiences. Rather, it is finding the way of shaping incidental narratives through recontextualization of imageries.
His liking for synthesis is the factor that makes his art come to light- that which adds up to permitting free rein to the imagination. Eliciting nonrational, divergent, “accidental” messages to unfold in the process, Jumalon’s subject takes place during the act of painting. He juxtaposes images from memory, photographs, nature, and drawings - not of nostalgia, but of spatial play, building up the work and inventing the subject matter. He aims for the composition to be holistic- not to reconstruct sentiments or to rescue memories but to present as effect of the spontaneous excursion with perception.

Biography
To create pictures that evoke "meaningfulness" is Edwin Jumalon's constant goal in his art practice.
His painting is shaped through various juxtaposition of images within a single work- images he culls from memory, the internet, mags, his own photographs and drawings. He builds up the work randomly, inventing visual narratives by combining disparate images from local myths, life events and personal history. He blends and extends the journey of these forms toward their final painted 'destination'.
Through integration,balancing and filtering of eclectic symbols, the artist creates layered narratives and metaphors in his paintings; paintings that evoke rather than describe.

What an amazing painting, Piloting the Scarecrow Home - full of surreal intensity and the serious expression on the girl's face contrasts well with the scarecrow and the entire idea. Also an industrial feeling comes off the machinery, which is a nice match with the young girl in her boots. Edwin Jumalon is an excellent contemporary artist.
