Ann Boisvert

Montréal, Quebec, Canada
Artist (Sculpture, Painting)
Born 1964

Born in Montreal in 1964, Ann Boisvert is a Leo and a Dragon... she gives it her all. A visual artist, Ann also signs on occasion with various rock bands and is a sign-designer by trade.

A fervent lover of classical music, jazz and blues, Ann also has a passion for foreign languages and the history of rock and roll.

Since her youth she has specialized in creating hyper-realist, white-on-black drawings; applying light to paper as opposed to shadows. The result gives the impression, according to photographers, of producing solarized photos (à la Man Ray). But in reality these images evolve from a simple white pencil on black paper. The process requires infinite patience.

The rapport between the human body and Ann’s drawings are striking: her ability to capture light predicates a strong sensitivity in her work. The magnificent sensuality that she shares through her technique is by far what touches us the most.

Working in the sign-trade has also allowed Ann to discover various media
(vinyl, aluminium and neon). She uses these materials, defying their original purpose, to create unique works of art.

The engravings on plates of aluminum are meticulously detailed. A palpable contrast arises from the juxtaposition of fine tribal-like motifs on a raw material serving as their foundation.
