Quando negli scacchi si è obbligati a muovere ma qualunque scelta si faccia porterà alla sconfitta: questa è la situazione che viene definita Zugzwang.
Agatino Raciti, architetto per formazione ed artista per “provocazione” collega la metafora scacchistica alla perenne possibilità di movimento che la vita ci offre come privilegio ma che ci fa pagare mettendoci inevitabilmente in “scacco”. Eppure il libero arbitrio ci consente, nei limiti delle opzioni di scelta a noi concesse, incredibili emozioni e passioni che Raciti trasferisce con potenza visionari sulle sue tele, caselle di una scacchiera immaginaria.
La forza primordiale della natura e l’intensità delle passioni umane creano un ciclo immortale di energia che raggiunge il culmine nel “LSD Last Supper Drama”, attraverso una prospettiva al contrario quasi a voler indagare su quello che si nasconde dietro l’ovvio dei secoli. La nuova produzione di Raciti interroga il senso della ricerca umana, attraverso un viaggio che trasfigura il dolore, l’eros, in dimensioni di nuova profondità ricorrendo ad un repertorio iconografico e cromatico potente e contemporaneo.

IMMORTAL ZUGZWANG

“Zugzwang” in the game of chess means that a player is compelled to move even though any possible choice will worsen his position.
The game of chess is represented by Raciti as a metaphor of a “compulsion move” that life offers as a privilege but is inevitably a lost game.
Although our liberum arbitrium gives us the capacity to experience a wide range of incredible emotions and passions that Raciti visualizes on his chess board with a strong visionary power.
Therefore, we find in his artwork the primordial force of nature and the intensity of human passions that create an immortal source of energy reaching the peak in “LSD Last Supper Drama” cycle, through a perspective, by contrast, that nearly investigate what was considered obvious over the centuries.
Agatino Raciti, in fact, is questioning ourselves about the meaning of human research, through a journey that transfigures the suffering in a dimension of new profundity. Our perception of sensorial reality is altered by the use of hallucinatory substances, like the mystery of the final hours of Jesus Christ may represent the major challenge for a human being, emphasizing the importance of life after death.
The resurrection announced by Raciti is not physical or bodily, but only spiritual. In this project the body is deformed and the characters are intricate and unrecognizable. It is the rediscovery of those dark sides, hidden in a subjective space that we often refuse to see.
The iconographic fulcrum is the crow, historically associated with the myth of the ferryman to ferry the souls into the underworld. With a sapient chromatic sense, Raciti finally declines his inspiration in three main colors, each of them symbolizes the fundamental aspect of life.
The Black LSD represents the materiality of the concrete world, associated with the human needs. The Red LSD is the fleshly nature and the carnal passion, representing the Transubstantiation, the conversion of the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ.
The White LSD is the state of final purity of the human being, after contact with the divine revelation, the life after death, the white spirituality that dissolves the color of the sky after last supper.
