In her studio in Montpellier, the painter Karen Thomas portrays imaginary

or real models in intimate postures in a naturalistic and contemporary

manner, juxtaposing and overlaying blocks of colour.

Men and women appear before the observer in their tall canvases,

standing, lying down or sitting on a stool, awake or asleep. They

contemplate life in a reflective silence and seem to invite us to share their

inner thoughts.We discern an adolescent expression, the cut of a modern

piece of clothing, the stylised space of a contemporary envrironment or a

familiar attitude, an interaction takes place between the canvas and

ourselves. Karen Thomas creates an atmosphere of modesty and

complicity, we are no longer simple spectators but the interlocutors of

these figures bestowed with life in their pictoral immortality.
