• My Inspiration
I live life passionately and that's the way I like it. If there's intrigue involved, I'm never far behind. I tire of mediocrity & the mundane. I despise monotony and disappear when it's present.
While always a writer and poet, my current choice of expression is through digital painting, using Photoshop CS 4 and a Wacom tablet as my primary medium. I'm self taught and have been a Digital Painter since 2005. I've been fortunate to exhibit my work on many occasions. In 2009 I was the featured Artist at Art is Alive in Canton, Ohio. I've also had the wonderful opportunity of being mentored by Kevin Mau who is the visual and regional designer of BOEING in Fountain Valley, CA. Kevin stumbled onto my work online and had a strong desire to coach me, he too was self taught and has been working for BOEING for over twenty years. I'm extremely fortunate to those who have mentored me along the way, without them I would not be producing at the level I am today.
My addiction is painting, it's purpose two-fold. An occupation yes; therapy indeed. Late at night, you'll find me in my studio painting the surreal. Much of my work is created for the purpose of stirring up the imagination. I enjoy provoking thought. My nonexistent motivation comes from a never ending supply of life's experiences, slowly jaded into inspiration. Through imagery I seek to unravel the mysteries of the human spirit. Images offer us a feeling, an experience, a connection - they have the power to transport us, even if only for a short while.
My art is very mixed media oriented, and always has been...digital "hybrids", intertwining photography and painting to create "digital originals" in a hybrid state. I am very process-oriented and am quite obsessed with creating layers of information within my artwork...almost like dreams seem to be at times. My work is observations of happenings or occurences in my life...as well as my dream state. It is not necessary to have people completely understand my art; merely question what is occurring and be able to grasp the feeling that each piece generates is satisfying enough.
I desire that my work give others a way to express themselves, to offer them a moment of magic and wonder, I long to ignite their imagination and give them a sense of connection. Each one of my paintings display a different piece of the puzzle that makes up my soul. Although I present my heart through individual description in many pieces, just remember you will always "get it" if you understand that the only opinion you must understand is your own.
