Born in 1958 in Nuremberg, Walter Roos currently lives and works in Germany. From an early age, he was influenced by art masters such as Renoir, Rodin, Leonardo da Vinci, Giorgione, Janssen, Dürer and Michelangelo, which profoundly shaped his figurative drawing style. Mainly using pencil on cardboard, Roos excels in the exploration of human forms, particularly that of the female body, which he draws with remarkable sensitivity and mastery.

After initial training as a stonemason and sculptor in Nuremberg, he obtained his honors degree in design thanks to a scholarship from the Sigmund-Schuckert Foundation. He then continued his studies for two semesters in communication design at the Nuremberg University of Applied Sciences before turning to fine arts and painting. From 1986 to 1991 he studied fine arts and painting at the former art school of the Fachhochschule in Cologne.

Since 1991 Walter Roos has worked as an independent artist. In May 1998 he founded the Kunstforum "Artfusion" in Euskirchen, near Cologne, a workshop, producers' gallery and free academy dedicated to realistic painting. Unfortunately, in July 2021, a devastating flood destroyed his studio and around 700 of his works.

His first solo exhibition took place in 1982 in Darmstadt, followed by numerous exhibitions across Germany, particularly in the alternative art scene of Cologne and, later, in Euskirchen where he maintained a permanent exhibition in his studio until the disaster. of 2021. His works are now present in private collections around the world.

Walter Roos' work is characterized by a neonaturalist exploration of the human body and a deep introspection on temporality and the natural appearance of man, particularly that of woman. A passionate draftsman since the age of 16, he has continued to perfect his art of drawing, adopting "Nonfinito" or "Yohaku no bi" (the beauty of empty space in Japanese) as a distinctive mark of his style.

For several years, Roos has enjoyed drawing on gray or brownish cardboard (Strathmore), whose texture and color provide a lively and complementary contrast to his drawing technique. This support also allows intense use of ink, which he prefers to simple Indian ink.
